Food is actually very good, speedy delivery…tasty, good quality and fairly priced for the most part, or so I thought. Because the quantity of the portions was very much on the stingy side of things really. I thought it would be enough to share or have leftovers for the following day but alas I was sorely mistaken. It’s a bit of a shame because of it wasn’t for that I’d order again without second thoughts.
I've been going to Akash for more than 30 years, on and off. Many of Akash customers are like me and some of them have been going there for even more years! So you can see my review is long overdue! It's a small, simple local restaurant which serves residents and tourists alike. I was scared it wouldn't survive the lockdown and be forced to close as so many restaurants have! But this humble Indian restaurant has thankfully managed to survive! It has been overseen by a dignified and debonair gentleman who has known his customers throughout the years. His service is impeccable and his welcome couldn't be warmer and he carries on being ageless!! The chef has also been there for years and manages to turn out deliciously, tasty dishes from a small back kitchen separated from the restaurant by nothing more than a kitchen. Last night I was there having worked late and I ordered a lamb sag which had just the right spice and texture and really proved to be moreish! The cauliflower bhaji was just how I like it. Gently spiced and not greasy or oily at all! The cucumber raita was a perfect accompaniment and the chapati are to die for if you don't like nann which I don't! I had the house red which was a smooth merlot and very drinkable. I would without hesitation recommend this small local Indian gem to residents and visitors alike!!
Great spot and authentic Indian food. Service was quick and friendly. Cozy quiet atmosphere.
